The Birth of Anthony's Pizza — A Family Legacy

Anthony's coal fired pizza was born from a single obsession: creating the most authentic, flavour-packed pizza experience in New England. Our founder Anthony DiMaggio grew up watching his grandmother stretch dough in a Naples kitchen, and he never forgot those flavours.

In 2005, Anthony opened the very first location at 119 University Ave in Westwood, MA — installing a traditional coal-burning oven that reaches 800°F and produces the signature charred crust and blistered toppings our guests rave about. From day one, anthony coal fired pizza became synonymous with bold flavour and honest ingredients.

Two decades later, we remain a family-owned restaurant committed to the same quality that started it all — hand-tossed dough, imported San Marzano tomatoes, and locally sourced fresh toppings, fired at intensity that no conventional oven can replicate.

2005

The Doors Open

Anthony DiMaggio fires up the original coal oven at 119 University Ave, Westwood, MA. The first anthonys coal fired pie comes out perfectly charred — and the line hasn't stopped since.

2008

Best Pizza in Westwood

Local press names Anthony's coal fired pizza the best independent pizzeria in Norfolk County. Guest demand doubles, and we expand our kitchen to keep pace with the growing fan base.

2011

Catering Program Launches

We bring anthony's coal fired pizza to corporate events, weddings, and private parties across Greater Boston. Our mobile coal oven trailer becomes the star of every event.

2015

10 Year Milestone

We celebrate our 10th anniversary with the introduction of seasonal menu specials and a guest loyalty program. Over 200,000 pizzas have left our oven in a decade.

2019

Franchise Program Begins

Inspired by community demand, Anthony's opens the franchise program to bring the anthonys pizza experience to new neighbourhoods — preserving the coal-fired tradition everywhere.
